Mae Fah Luang University Big Number BIPA Students

Over many years, Thai students take Indonesian languages as a elective or minor course. There are three universities which open Indonesian language for minor course; Thamasart University, Naresuan University and Fatoni University. Most of university in Thailand open the Indonesian language studies course as an elective course. Fatoni University, for example, will be potential good university to have Indonesian language as one of great programme in the future.


Based on the update data in Januari 2020, the total students who take Indonesian language program is 2123 of students in semester year of 2019/2020. This amount is bigger than the last year students 1314 students.

According to the newest update, Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai Province North of Thailand showed the highest number of students who take the Indonesian language course. There are 475 students who take Basic Indonesian Language course under Faculty of Liberal Art. Miss Anna and Miss Ervina are the lecturers who teach the classes. Elective course with 3 credit in a semester attracts the students from MFU to learn Indonesian language.


However, there are also some universities that close down the course. Some of universities close the course are caused by some factors.
1. The policy of the University
Universities in Thailand make a policy to open and close the Indonesian Language course depend on the need of academic system. The curriculum to support Asean languages or Asean Studies in faculty of Humanities or Faculty of Social.
2. There is no lecturer (Thai or Indonesian) who can teach Indonesian Language.
The limitation of lecturers or teacher available to teach Indonesian language or Indonesian studies in Thailand.
3. The diplomacy to promote Indonesian Language from Indonesian Government or institutions
Cooperation and promotion about Indonesia culture and language are urgent parts to be the priority in each University in Thailand. Visiting lecture and students from Indonesia give good feedback to the University in Thailand.
4. The time schedule of the students
Some students could not take the course because of the time schedule. This problem should be a prioritized problem to consider to solve for all the stakeholders.

Learning Indonesian Through Advertisement.

"Beli dua gratis satu" said one of Thai student who was promoting his selling item. Students first grade at the Pirayanawin Klonghin WIttaya School Thailand are learning Indonesian through topic about advertisement. Indonesian language is one of Foreign language was though in this School. There is Chinese, Arabic, and Melayu language as a foreign language also thought in this school.
